BTW, I really like the way you write. How did you become such a wonderful writer and what is your process like for character study?
Aw shucks...thanks for the nice compliment. I started writing when I was pretty young. I distinctly remember the first time I tried to write a fic, Voltron naturally, and the feeling of euphoria I got when I finally emptied out what was in my head. Haven't looked back since. :)
My process for character study...that's a tough one. Before I start writing, I usually already have an idea of what the characters' personalities are: the hero, the sarcastic guy, the wise old man--and I keep this mind while I write. I tend to imagine the scenes I write like a movie and I let the characters play out their roles to see if it fits.
I don't have a more concrete answer than that because it's more instinctive than anything else. If the character does something OOC, I start feeling very uncomfortable (this usually happens whenever I write Zuko 'feeling' pieces). I suppose the best way to put it is that I internalize them and walk around in their shoes as I write (hmm..that might not have been the best way...).
Phew...sorry for the long-winded answer! No one's ever asked me about character study before and I really had to sit and think about that one. Though, it makes me wonder now how other writers do it...
*wanders away to read, feeling confused about how she missed the updates?*
